Wednesday: How-To Conquer your Closet!

Hello Fashionista’s! It’s the middle of the week and the last day of my Style 101 course. Aw it’s so sad that it’s coming to an end; I really enjoyed doing this and I hope you all did too. I will wrap up the course with how-to conquer your closet. There are top 10 tips to keeping your closet neat and orderly:

1)Think eye level –place frequently worn clothes at eye level
2)Lift shoes –don’t put shoes on the floor, instead find a hanging door rack or shoe rack for them
3)Stash boots –store upright with opposite ends together saves space
4)Fold knits –sweaters and delicate clothing should be folded and not hung, so they keep shape
5)Pair like items –put like items together; pants on one rack, skirts on another, separate long and short sleeves; color coordinate clothing for easy access (I do this one)
6)Maximize space –place horizontal bars at different heights for different items; by placing bars higher you can make use of the space better
7)Clear the decks –don’t store loose items at the bottom; keep rarely used items in a box at the bottom; keep it neat
8)Keep shelves spare –don’t over stuff shelves; 3 or 4 sweater or tops per shelf for ease of finding
9)Rotate clothes seasonally –only one season in the main closet at a time to find pieces easier
10)Buy quality hangers –keep them uniform and neat; plastic, metal or wooden –just pick one

Clean your closet and organize your fabulous wardrobes, Fashionista’s!

Tuesday: How-To Look Better in Photos!

Hey! Fashionable people love being in pictures and definitely want to look better when the camera flashes. Learn to look skinnier, brighter, bolder, fiercer, confident, and model perfect in your next pictures. There are 10 aspects to be thinking about before the camera flashes:

1) Face –straighten head, relax shoulders, chin out, slightly downward is perfect
2) Hair –leave your hair down or ½ updo; let hair gently frame face
3) Smile –place tip of tongue behind teeth as you smile for a genuine smile
4) Arms –never rest them against your torso, instead angle them back from your body
5) Dress –in solid dark color, dipping necklines for flattering look; don’t wear clingy pieces
6) Feet –position one foot in front of the other, swivel hips and turn feet slightly away from camera
7) Skin –use foundation or cover up for under eye circles; natural light is more flattering
8) Head –authentic smile
9) Hands –point hands down around edges of hips; don’t hold a drink
10) Diaphragm –breath out before the flash to relax face and body

Monday: Hot-To Decipher a Dress Code!

Hello F@shionist@’s! In-style’s Style 101 Summer Course continues this week for 3 days. FashionGirl will only have 3 new blogs and start next week with the regular format. Today is How-To decipher any dress code. There are 4 occasions I will include:

1)Black Tie –elegant and traditional is required.
•Women –think about location and type of event; you can go with a traditional full-length gown or an elegant, yet classy cocktail shift dress. Try to stay traditional!
•Men –Tuxedos are a must!

2)Formal/Black-Tie Optional –this is still formal with some trendier pieces added in.
•Women –can opt for a shorter but still formal dress instead of a gown.
•Men –can opt for a tux with a black shirt and no tie; or if no tuxedo a dark suit.

3)Semiformal/Cocktail –be aware of the time of day (night is more formal than daytime)
•Women –bring out your fun and elegant cocktail dress.
•Men –can wear a dark suit; tuxes are not required.

4)Festive/Dressy Casual –this means “make an effort and show your personality”
•Women –think sparkly, yet classy. A beaded camisole and black pants or skirt
•Men –think dressy casual; make an effort, don’t come too casual in shorts or t-shirt

Be in the know and dress to impress at your next party or event, Fashionista’s!

Saturday: How-To Do Your Own Manicure!

It’s the weekend F@shionist@’s and what a better way to start it off than with a relaxing DIY at-home manicure. Save money, relax and get fabulous nails for the weekend. There are 6 easy steps:

1)Clean and trim –soak a cotton ball in polish remover and swipe from base to tip. To make short fingers appear longer, keep your nails rounded
2)File and shape –sweep a file in one direction across your nails to file and shape
3)Soak them –in a small bowl filled with warm soapy water emerge finger tips for 4 minutes
4)Soften cuticles –soften cuticles with cuticle cream, oil or balm by massaging it onto them and let it soak in for 3 minutes; now you can push cuticles back without hurting them
5)Clean and Moisturize –push cuticles back gently and then massage in hand cream
6)Apply Polish –wipe nails with remover, then apply base coat. Once dry apply one or two coats and finally apply a topcoat

1)Choose a formula –make sure the sunscreen includes UVA and UVB
2)Get a number –know how much sum protection each gives; at least SPF 15–SPF 30

4)Reapply –reapply after 20 minutes of going outside; then every 2 hours after that
5)Get full coverage –make sure you apply enough from head to toe; sprays are easier
6)Be safe –apply water-resistant formulas and make sure you reapply it!

Wednesday: How-To Trim your bangs!

Hey F@shionist@’s, need a little trim for your bangs, but don’t have the time or money for the salon? Why not trim them yourself. Before you begin make sure you have proper hair-cutting scissors, a round brush, a comb, a blow dryer, and clips.

1)Start by applying a styling gel from roots to ends of wet hair. Use your rounded brush to blow dry bangs into your usual style. NEVER CUT HAIR WHEN IT’S STILL WET!

2)Next, section off your bangs with a part above bangs and tuck/clip the rest of your hair away.

3)Decide on length –using a comb divide bangs in half and start with one side. Gently push down on bangs with back of comb and rest it against brow bone. Brow line is safety position, don’t cut above and don’t pull/press bangs when cutting.

4)Point-cut (which means snipping into nag section at 45 degree angle) Cut small sections and move slowly. NEVER CUT STRAIGHT ACROSS! It’s harder and can be uneven.

5)Check your work! Step back and check again until you are satisfied.

Wednesday: How-To Recognize Quality!

Hello Fashionista’s! Today’s lesson is all about quality. One thing to remember is to get the best quality you can afford to. You don’t need the top brands to have the best quality! There are six things to consider:
1)Experiment –try on the top brands to see how an investment piece (like a suit) should feel, hang and drape. Then try to find a similar one at a lower price point.
2)Do you feel label pressure? –the designer label can indicate quality, but how it’s made is more important.
3)Know the fabrics –beware of sheen suits and microfibers. If something looks wrinkled on the hanger in the store, it’s better to leave it there.
4)Test ALL zippers and buttons BEFORE you buy!
5)Check all seams, hems and stitches for pulling or puckering.
6)Check the garments lining to see how it feels and was constructed.

Quality in garments is the most aspect. If the qualities good you will likely buy from that designer again!

Tuesday: How-To Shop Sales!

Hey Fashionista’s! Style 101 continues with How-to shop sales! There are four basics to the sales rack:
1)Know what’s really a bargain! It’s only a good deal if you are going to wear it and how it will fit into your current wardrobe.
2)Take a moment and go over your items before you head to the check! Ask yourself questions about each piece. Am I actually going to wear this? Will I get it tailored? What will it go with?
3)Hit the stores at the right time of the year! Most department stores do markdowns 6-8 weeks after the new merchandise arrives. Also the week after Christmas and Memorial Day are big too.
4)Know return policies! Some stores sale items are “Final Sale”, which means NO returning.

Search for those summer sales, Fashionista’s, and find something fabulous!

Thursday: Highlights: Secret Life on ABC Family!

Hey there! So this past Monday, the Secret Life of the American Teenager premiered its summer season on ABC Family at 8/7pm central. Did anyone watch it or TiVo it? If you did you will know that it is packed full of drama and oh-so-addicting. Monday nights premiere was good. Ben told Amy he stills love her, but they decided to just be friends (I wonder how long it will last). Adrian says she isn’t pregnant (Is is telling the truth, did she get an abortion). Jack’s parents are moving to Arizona and he needs to find a friend to live with to complete senior year and asks Madison and her parents (umm, probably not the best idea). Ashley went with her Dad to get birth control pills and her Mom found out that she got them and so did Amy (this family keeps a lot of secrets). Want to know more, check it out on Monday nights!

Tuesday: Trend: Bright Bold Spring!

Hey there, enjoying the lovely weather and sunny days, Fashionista’s? I know I am because o love getting dressed for fabulous weather days. From dresses, shorts, skirts, Capri’s, jeans, tees, tanks, button-ups, khaki, spring jackets, sandals, scarves, swim suits and sunglasses and all of the other spring and summer must-haves I have absolutely no doubt in saying warm weather is my favorite kind.

What’s better to start off a warm and sunny day than with a bright printed or plaid top with jeans, Capri’s, shorts (depending on the length you prefer). Or try pairing a tank with a bright button-up and your choice of JCS. Add a cute pair of sandals, scarf and bag to complete the look. Of if girlie is more your style, pair a plaid or print dress with leggings/tights, heals/wedges, and a crop jacket.

Remember when wearing bright colors don’t forget the sunglasses, Fashionista’s!

Mixing nail colors can be a fabulous twist on nail trends, an amazing accessory and a great conversation-starter. Teal and yellow for a summer-beach-y look or lilac and pale green for a peaceful-boho vibe. Right now I’m into a bold, stormy blue with a sparkly top coat.

Tuesday: Trend: Zip-Leg Jeans?!

Link to the jeans >>> http://twitpic.com/1dnv7o

Hey there, Fashionista’s! I found this from Seventeen and I had to share it. OMG; is this really what fashion is coming to? I don’t know about you, but this isn’t fashion, this is tacky and kind of trashy! Who would wear a pair of these jeans out? Especially the zipper ones (on left) and lace-up the entire leg (on right). The middle ones are somewhat okay, but still not a trend that I or anyone else for that matter should support. I do admit that I wear some crazy and creative clothes sometimes, but I do it tastefully and appropriately. If this is a new trend, I definitely nominate it for the worst dress and worst trend lists of the decade! Who agrees?

Wow, what is fashion coming to, Fashionista’s!

Monday: Accessory: Step It Up!

Hey there, Fashionista’s! Do you need a way to freshen up your look for spring and summer without buying a whole new wardrobe? Well guess what you can! Something I’ve been seeing a lot of lately in magazines and on TV is shoe accessories. Now you may be asking, “What is that?” At first I didn’t really understand them much either. I mean if you want to change the look of your shoes, buy a new pair. But with these shoe accessories you can re-create designer-inspired shoes for less. For example take a chic pair of black heals you have in your closet and with a little magic from Dekkori get a pair of pull-on boot accessories for $156 to turn your old heels into boots. Now, I think $156 is a little pricey for my budget, and many others. I mean my shoes didn’t even cost half of that. If I was going to spend $156, I actually want a new pair of shoes!!
If you want to check out this new crazy accessory, here’s the link:

Hey there, you might not have known this, but this past weekend the Kid’s Choice Awards graced Nickelodeon with their presence for a fun night of awards and slime. I think the KCAs are actually getting routine and boring, lately. I know that it is an awards show for kids, but most of the shows, actors and movies are the ones that I watch and like; so that’s why I like watching. I mean technically I watch mostly all of the awards shows, just because I like to see what everyone wears, but I haven’t heard of most of the nominees. Like the Oscars’ for example I never heard of any of the top movies of the year. My favorite movie in 2009 was Hannah Montana: The Movie because Miley Cyrus is a great actress, singer, designer, writer, etc. My advice for the KCAs next year would be to mix it up a little with something new and exciting and maybe even have a separate awards show for the Disney channel!

Some of the winners were:
Movie Actress: Miley Cyrus :)
Movie Actor: Taylor Lautner (?)
TV Actress: Selena Gomez :)
TV Actor: Dylan Spouse
TV Show: I-Carly :)
Movie: Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakual

KCAs are not just for kids anymore, Fashionista’s!

Wednesday: Fashion News: The Near Future, Brings Back the Past!

Hey Fashionista’s! Spring just arrived, it’s not yet summer, but fall looks are starting to grace us with their presence. I for one don’t like this time of year because I wish we could stay in spring/summer mode all year long, but I guess we have to switch seasons. But maybe if we can make summer longer and shorten fall/winter, we could have the best of both worlds! Breaking news, this just in from Women’s Wear Daily, this fall designers are using a architectural eye to tailor their looks with sharp lines, bold construction, strong shoulders and hard angles. So this means that fall runway looks will be sharp, polished and ensure confidence. While we are all having fun in the sun with colors this summer, we can be motivated to look forward to a polished fall with new beginnings and bright futures!

Look forward to a confident and polished fall, Fashionista’s!

Tuesday: Trend: Smart Water!

Hey there, today’s trend is Smart Water! Glaceau's Smart Water is a new and improved take on water. Made with the hydrologic cycle, meaning hydro (water) and logic (smart) is how smart water got it's name. With rain water beginning the process, then its distilled into vapor and precipitates, finally electrolytes are added and your Smart Water is bottled and purchased. So does this mean that Smart Water will actually make you smarter? Probably not, but at least you can look stylish and feel smarter drinking a bottle of Smart Water. Glaceau's Smart Water also makes Vitamin Water and Vitamin Water Zero. Try all three today! I tried it and I didn't notice anything different than regular bottle water, except a crisper taste. But try it for yourself!

Check out Glaceau's website for more details on the unique packaging!

Thursday: Highlights: Miley!

hey Fashionista's! Check out Miley's new movie "The Last Song" when it comes out on March 31st! I really want to see it. Why? Because I love Miley! I know she's like four years younger than me, but she is a very talented actor, singer, designer and writer. I loved the Hannah Montanna movie and I know I will love "The Last Song" when it comes out. Even though I might have to wait a little longer for it to come out where I am currently. Liam Hemsworth, Miley's boyfriend, is also in the movie playing her boyfriend. Well they actually met during the filming of the movie.
Check out this website for more of the cast, the story, and locations:

Wednesday: Fashion News: Street Style!

Hello, Fashionista's! This week's fashion news comes to you from the April issue of Seventeen magazine. This month Seventeen took styles off the street that everyday girls are wearing and showed how they can be turned into something trend-inspired from spring.

1) Brights!!! Everyone loves to wear bright colors and stand out, when it's apporpriate of course. On the streets this is done all out with multiple colors and patterns to add glam to any outfit. You can turn this into a spring trend by mixing neon colors for a bold style, but by adding a short-sleeve sweatshirt and cute sneakers to tone done the crazy a little bit.

2) Ruffles!!! I kow I love ruffles, but I don't like to go over-the-top crazy with them. This look on the streets can be girly, glam, boho or preppy. Just what you pair with it takes on the look. You can turn this girly trend into a spring look by having ruffles with flouncy tiers on denim to look edgier. Also if you add differnt layer washes of denim like a dark denim ruffle-y dress with light-wash crop jacket with some tribal jewelry and texture for a funky edgy look.

3) Lace!!! lace can complete any look with a sophisicated or romantic vibe, but just how can you turn it into a spring trend. One the streets lace has a vintage-inspired feel of a light, airy and romantic twist. For spring you can try a chic black lace shirt with edgy white skinny jeans for a tough, yet sweet look. Don't forget the edgy accessories!

4) Stripes!!! On the streets stripes can be classy and comfy all in one. Plus eye-catching! To turn this classy-comfy look into a spring must-have try to make this trend sexy and earthy with colored stripes, classy cutouts and a belt to cinch your waist. Add boho, vintage-y accessories to complete this rocker-inspried look.

Bring everyday looks to high fashion, fashionista's!

Tuesday: Trend: Plaid!

Hey there, want to look smart, sexy, cute, colorful, girly glam and beach-y-laidback this season? Try the latest trend of plaid! Wear it alone or mix and match it with different color plaids, patterns, designs or textures.

Like this plaid shirt dress from Macy's. It can be dressed up with tights, heals and classy accessories or dressed down with boots and a cute jacket for weekend.
http://www.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=442751&BannerID=PD446&PartnerID=LINKSHARE&LinkshareID=P2kJ999Um6Y-0hF9fV8FxBUnFW11qN4DZQ

Mixing plaids can be fun and creative, if you know how to pull it off. This runway look can be a little over-the-top for everyday, but by mixing a cute plaid button-up with a solid or other print can be much more wearable.

Secure an internship (hopefully paid), figure out exactly what I want to do with my life in the wonderful fashion industry, graduation prep, finish classes, figure out where I would like to live, and so much more. Monday: Accessory: What's Your Style?

Hey Fashionista’s! It’s the start of another week, but at least it’s getting closer to spring here in the Midwest. Accessories are an important part of our everyday dress and personal style; that this week I am going to look at four different styles and some chic accessories for each. Our course each of us has each of these styles in us, but how about mixing them up and creating a whole new look. Check out the March issue of Seventeen on where to find some of these pieces.

1)Girly Glam –when going for a girly look try mixing lacy, bright colors and prints for a fun vibe. You can try a cute gold and pink heart shaped ring from Betsey Johnson, sold at select Dillard’s. Of killer red heels from Fergie sold at shoes.com. Lace and bows are also fun to add to your look.

2)Flirty Florals –still want to be girly, but a little toned down for day. Try layered florals and ruffles for a candy sweet vibe. A chic floral print bag from O’Neil is fun and spring-y. Or a fabulous gold with flower-y necklace from Lulu’s is exactly what you need and its only $29! By wearing pale colors it will give off a sweet, yet sophisticated look.

3)City Sleek –ready to hit the city streets in style. Try basic shapes and bold intense colors and pieces for a casual, yet “wow” factor vibe. A bold colored tunic with a basic black pencil skirt or pants with statement heels will definitely get you noticed while walking down 5th Avenue. Add big bold face-framing sunglasses and a bold KR3W watch from zumiez.com for $50 for a hint of polished sophistication.

4)Downtown Edgy –so you want to add a tough vibe to your look. Try mixing leather and denim for a “tough” feel. For a weekend downtown pair gray skinny jeans with a vintage tee and chic faux-leather jacket. Add a studded belt and hold converse sneakers to complete the look.

Embrace your unique style, Fashionista’s, and mix it up a little!

Friday: Health: Beautiful Foods!

Hey there, it’s Friday and for healthy-living this week I found in Seventeen foods that make you pretty and foods that can sabotage beauty.

Three foods to improve your beauty and body:
1) To get clearer skin try a salmon sushi roll and edamame. Salmon and edamame (soy beans) have omega-3 fatty acids, which are healthy fats to help soften your skin, protect against acne and clogged pores, and keep your eyes sparkly and bright.
2) To get a brighter smile try a strawberry-raspberry yogurt parfait. Yogurt and low-fat dairy are high in calcium and phosphorus, which help teeth stay shiny and strong and vitamin C, which will keep your gums healthy.
3) To get shiny hair try beef or tofu stir fry. Lean beef and tofu have iron, which makes hair shiny and soft and vitamin C from veggies like red pepper, which help your body absorb the iron.

Three foods to sabotage your beauty:
1) Too much sugar can make your skin oily and clog pores, which cause zits.
2) Too much sodium (French fries/Chinese food/soup) can cause puffy eyes and bloating.
3) Too much caffeine (energy drinks/coffee) can drain your body of moisture and make skin dry.

Tuesday: Trend: Spring!

Hey there, today’s trend is spring. With the start of March and Spring Break coming up, I think spring should be on every Fashionista’s mind. This week’s top trends for spring come from the March issue of Seventeen magazine.

Destroyed pieces are being seen on the runway. From ripped denim or leggings to frayed and slashed pieces, the “destroyed look” is one spring trend embraced by designers Just Cavalli, Balmain, and Herve Leger.

Mixed prints were seen on Versace and Proenza Schouler runways. Get this look by pairing a large bold print with smaller patterns for a “thrown together” casual weekend or class look.

Tribal earthy tones and geometric prints are another colorful trend for spring. With interesting patterns and colors, there’s definitely something for everyone. Gucci and Dries Van Noten are two designers who are embracing the tribal trend.

Prairie trends like tiny florals, faded leather and beat-up denim look pretty and laid-back. The “Prairie look” is being embraced this spring by Chanel, D&G, and Ralph Lauren.

Rosettes can be big flowers and bright hues that make a sweet print vibrant and fun. Moschino and Dolce & Gabbana are bringing girly color to spring with flowers and bold colors. Betsey Johnson has a fabulous red rosette and skull bag that’s available at www.betseyjohnson.com.

Military looks that are army-inspired, yet still girly with details, ruffles and bows is another spring trend. Alexander Wang, Chloe, and Rag & Bone are three designers embracing this trend with forest green, khaki, brown and black. From a chic sweater vest to cargo-like Capri’s and shorts to belts over dresses and shirts military looks are a trend being seen this spring.

Monday: Accessory: Chic Laptop Bags!

Hey Fashionista’s! Today’s accessory is a laptop bag because over the weekend I was out looking for one and found a totally classy-chic black laptop bag that can double as a purse. It actually looks like a big purse that can hide a laptop in it! I found it at Target of all places, after looking around awhile at other places. It was affordable as well, not like the other $100 or $200 bags I saw elsewhere. Finding a chic laptop bag is more popular than ever with students and business-people traveling and working away from home. Also with laptops getting smaller (minis and netbooks) allows people to take their laptop on-the-go. Even fashion designers, like Vivienne Tam whom I talked about last week, have collaborated with HP to design a chic mini laptop (that’s the size of a clutch). Other designers have added a laptop compartment to their line of purses and/or totes.

Monday: Accessory: Subtle-y bold colors!

Hey Fashionista's! Today's accessory blog is all about Spring/Summer colors. These will be hot colors in apparel, accessories, nails, makeup, and everything in between.
There are five color palettes from Pantone that will be seen for the upcoming season.

1. Archaic Garden -this palette is about subtler and more antique-like colors. More getting in tough with the Earth with these calming earth tones.

2. Underwater Variation -this palette is about aquatic depths and calming feelings with the dark greens, blues and purples. With some sand color thrown in to complete the aquatic palette.

3. Tropical Dramaturgy -this palette is all about being in a tropical paradise surrounded by beautiful flowers. With the golds, oranges, browns, purples, reds, and greens you will feel warm and spicy throughout the season.

4. Enchanted Picnic -this palette reminds me of a pretty garden party. With the pinks, purples, greens, browns, gray and white it just looks so happy and pretty for Spring/Summer. I can't wait until it warms up to enjoy the pretty colors.

5. Shadowy Shores -this palette is darker and drearier than other ones. I'm not so sure if I'm liking it for Spring/Summer, it reminds me of winter. With the dark blues, greens, browns, rust and white it just looks kind of depressing for bright, cheerful weather that's to come.

Friday: Health: Eating out this weekend!

Hey there! Today's health blog will be about healthy tips for eating out. We all love going out to our favorite restaurants, but why should we eat the worst things one the menu! Soups and salads are some of the worst options you can make when eating out with all the sodium, fat and calories in the bowls. Today's healthy tips cover Japanse, Chinese, Italian, Mexican and diner food. And the healthy options you can choose from while eating out.

Japanese > try an avocado roll, brown rice and edamame beans for a low-fat, high-protein meal
Chinese > try chicken with steamed brown rice and broccoli for a low-fat, low-calorie meal
Italian > try a thin crust tomato, basil, motzerella pizza with a small side salad
Mexican > try a black bean wrap with salsa on a whole wheat tortilla, but skip the cheese and sour cream for a filling protein and carb meal
Diner > try a turkey club with lettuce and tomato with mustard, skip the mayo and bacon

Some other tips for eating out healthy try...
customzing your order > like asking for a small side salad or fruit instead of fries
Mix it up > instead of ordering a big entree, try ordering a small side salad and a healthy appitizer or order a entree and split it with a friend
Slow down > take your time and enjoy your meal, it takes 20 minutes after you start eating for your brain to know that you're full
Be an individual > don't order what your friends are, choose the food your want

Go out and enjoy a healthy meal this weekend, Fashionista's!

Thursday: Highlights: Tyra!

Hey there, Fashionista's! Today's highlight is Tyra Banks. We all know her from her modeling days, America's Next Top Model, The Tyra Show, producing The Clique Movie, and so much more. Tyra has created her own production company, Bankable Productions and is a big name in the world today. It's her mission to change the fashion industrys' standard of beauty and the the way people, ecspecially girls feel about themselves. Tyra wants girls and women to stop comparing themselves to the unrealistic images they see in magazines and on TV and to start to love their bodies for what they is a healthy way. Of course this is all great to do and everything, but let's look at reality. People have been comparing themselves to models, celebrities, and each other for hundreds of years; so how is one person going to change the way everything is? Their not, people are only going to start loving their bodies if they want to and not until they feel comfortable in their bodies to begin with. I mean how often do you hear "I can't wear that, it will make me look fat" or "I hate trying on ______" or "That girl looks so much better than me". We will always hear phases like these and others, and have pretty much gotten use to them. And now they really are just common phases. So they next time you think "oh, I feel fat in this" or "I don't look perfect", just remember that nobody's perfect and everyone has something they would like to change. But remember it's all of our differences that make us unique and that what makes us special!

Tuesday: Trend: Chic for Class!

Hey there! This week's trend is chic for class. Every Fashionista wants to look stylish for class, but without looking like you're trying too hard. You can achieve a "chic for class" look with a few basic pieces that will be so comfortable that you'll never wear sweats outside ever again! Personally I can't stand seeing people wearing sweats to class, grocery shopping or anywhere that is not at home.

One look you can go for is a dress over skinny jeans, leggings or tights. Any dress tank, short-sleeve or log-sleeve can be dressed down for class or day-time. A print or colorful dress is perfect with skinny jeans or a solid or neutral dress would bring attention to fun, printed leggings or tights. Don’t forget the accessories!

Another look you can try is skinny or wide leg jeans (depending on your body type) paired with a cute tee and jacket or blazer. This look will dress up any boring tee with the fitted jacket (black looks extra chic) and skinny or wide leg jeans will still keep you casual enough for a day of classes. Don’t forget the accessories!

A third look will go for a more layer-y feeling with many cozy layers to keep you warm on those cold days. Start with a basic camisole in any color then add a cute v-neck sweater over it and finish off the top with a cute vest. Let’s say a pink camisole, white sweater with a black vest, for example. This is easy, comfy and chic for class. Now on the bottom you can try jeans in a dark wash (skinny, boot-cut or wide-leg), it’s up to you. Add a belt around your waist, some cute boots and a slouchy-knit hat and this is your perfect chic for class look!

Make sure you look chic for class, Fashionista’s!

Monday: Accessory: Clutches!

Hey Fashionista's! You know when you're going to run out somewhere and don't want to take your huge bag with you, why not use a clutch instead! A clutch can be perfect for running to the store, class or even a night out; going places where you don't need to take all of you "personal things" with you. I know my bag gets heavy, crowded and i can never find what I'm looking for. I know this has happened to all of us, but why not put out important "things" in the clutch and place it in the bigger bag. That way when you want to take the clutch it's read to go! Here's an adorable Betsey Johnson clutch from Macy's for $82.99! And a chic Apt. 9 day-to-night clutch from Kohl's for only $20!

Complete your on-the-go style with a cute clutch, Fashionista's!

Friday: Health: Olive Oil!

Hey Fashionista's! Today's health blog is about olive oil this week. Now you might be thinking what's healthy about olive oil and I'm here to tell you that everyone should include olive oil in there diets. From pouring a little over pasta and salads, instead of creamy sauces and dressings can cut many calories and fat out of your diet and can be an easy way to lose that 5 pounds that everyone wants to lose for Spring Break! Using olive oil is a healthy way to add flavor and nutrients to your body. Olive oil helps to make hair shinier too, so there's an added bonus. However, don't use too much olive oil. 1 or 2 tablespoons is recommended, but if you go overboard like any other food it can be bad for you. Go out and enjoy some veggie pasta and olive oil this weekend. Hey, it's an easy meal for a busy Fashionista!
Add a little olive oil to your pasta or salad this weekend, Fashionista's!

Wednesday: Fashion News: The Row!

Fashionista's, today in fashion news is The Row, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's new line for WalMart. The line is elegant, sophisticated, versatile and understated, just like the girls and it is perfect for a classic look with lot's and lot's of bold accessories! Tons of accessories complete MK&A's signature looks. MK&A also previously launched a line for JCPenney called olsenboye. The Row is a European-inspired line for tweens to young woman who want a little Euro-touch into their looks. Their names don't appear anywhere on the clothing because they felt that true fashionista's wouldn't want to buy pieces from a "young adult brand".
Check out The Row and olsenboye at a Walmart and JCPenney's near you!

Tuesday: Trend: Fun Leggings!

Hey there! Another snowy blizzard in Illinois! Oh, how I wish I could live in 75-85 degrees year round! Today's trend I have seen around lately, especially around campus is creative legging choices. Of course black leggings can get boring after awhile, so what better way to liven them up than with patterns, colors, stripes, prints, cut-outs, zippers, etc. I found an amazing pair of leggings at JCPenney from I Heart Ronson that I love. They are multicolored stripes with zippers at the bottom. I paired them with a solid black dress and boots for a casual class chic look, but you could dress them up as well. I know what you're thinking "multicolored strips won't work for me". Well it's true not everyone can pull them off, but if you have skinny legs (like me) where you can never find any jeans (skinny included) to fit then leggings are a perfect substitute for jeans. Especially jeggins, jean-like leggings! Leggings also come in prints, patterns, and a variety of colorsto spice up your wardrobe. Just don't go overboard! Also try pairing a plaid or striped pair of leggings with a cut-out or lace-y pair for a unique look, just go simpler on the top and accessories.
Have fun with leggings, Fashionista's!

Monday: Accessory: a Good Book!

Hey there, Fashionista's! It's another cold and snowy week, blah! But this week's accessory is going to be a good book. I know what you're thinking I don't have time to read, but you'd be surprised. Ever waiting for a meeting, bus, train, person, etc and find yourself just "playing" with your phone. Instead of that, go the the library and bookstore and find an interesting book or series and bring a book in your bag for those "unexpected delays". I love the Gossip Girl series, It Girl, Clique, A-List and most recently the Private/Privilege series by Kate Brian. Yes, all of these are drama-filled books, but I love reading about drama (and creating)! And hey, if you go to the library you can get books and movies for the weekend for free, you just have to remember to return them! So go check out your local library or bookstore this weekend, fashionista's! And what better way to get fashion inspiration.
Grab a good book, Fashionista's!

Tuesday: Trend: Sweater Dresses!

Hey there, Fashionista's! Sorry about the delay, I have been busy this week. But one trend that I personally love and have seen out there a lot is Sweater Dresses! I am actually wearing a black flutter-like sleeve v-neck knit swearer dress with black leggings and cute tan knit boots right now. It's so chic and comfy for a snowy, winter day. There are some cute sweater dresses at www.jcpenney.com and www.macys.com. Sweater dresses with leggings, tights or skinny jeans are perfect for those cold winter and for those warmer spring days well. They are the perfect transition pieces every Fashionista should have in her wardrobe.

Friday: Body Issues: Look Your Best!

So it's the weekend, Fashionista's and everyone wants to look their best. I am here to tell you that you can look good no matter what size, shape or body issues being you down. Just dress your body to the best of its abilities and make sure you highlight your good features and detract from t he ones you don't feel as confident about.
If you don't feel so good about your tummy... Look for high waist dresses with flow-y bottoms. Or fitted jeans, a cute flow-y top with a jacket belted at the waist (emphasizes that smallest part of you).
If you don't feel so good about your legs and/or thighs... Look for wide leg pants and a fitted top to contrast the proportions. Or an above-the knee dress or skirt will camouflage your legs and bring out your best features.
Let your body wear the clothes, not the clothes wear you, Fashionista's!

Today's trend will definitely bring some sophistication to your look with a black blazer. Hey there, Fashionista's! Mix up your winter look a little by wearing shorts with patterned tights or leggings. Pair a chic sweater dress with black or patterned tights or leggings for a comfy-cozy look or pull out your favorite cute denim shorts and wear them over a solid pair of black, gray or navy tights with a tank top and button-up. Monday: Accessory: Knit Bracelets!

Hello Fashionista's! This week I am going back to the basic FashionGirl topics after last weeks fun little special treat. Something I have come to love to make and wear lately are Knit Bracelets! These fun little bracelets can be made in around 30 minutes or quicker once you've made a couple. I knitted one in a multi-color pastel yarn with a crochet needle and basic stitches.
First, take a small crochet needle size G and any color yarn you want.
Next tie a knot on the end of the yarn, so your bracelt stays together.
Now wrap the yarn around the needle twice and pull the first loop over the second one and off of the needle. (Repeat this about 10 times)
After this wrap the yarn once around the needle and pull the last loop already on the needle over the one you just made and then that one comes off the needle. (Repeat until all 10 loops are off)
Repeat this process until you have 8 hanging decorations and 9 loops (an extra on the end to tie off, make sure you leave a little extra yarn to tie on your wrist)
Do NOT remove any of the loops off of the needle, it will fall apart.
Now cut about 9 2-inch pieces of yarn in the same color or a different color
Tie each piece around the loops twice to secure the bracelet.
Now remove the bracelet from the needle and its ready-to-wear!

Have fun with knit bracelets, Fashionista's! They are unique and fun.
