Friday: Body Issues: Look Your Best!

So it's the weekend, Fashionista's and everyone wants to look their best. I am here to tell you that you can look good no matter what size, shape or body issues being you down. Just dress your body to the best of its abilities and make sure you highlight your good features and detract from t he ones you don't feel as confident about.
If you don't feel so good about your tummy... Look for high waist dresses with flow-y bottoms. Or fitted jeans, a cute flow-y top with a jacket belted at the waist (emphasizes that smallest part of you).
If you don't feel so good about your legs and/or thighs... Look for wide leg pants and a fitted top to contrast the proportions. Or an above-the knee dress or skirt will camouflage your legs and bring out your best features.
Let your body wear the clothes, not the clothes wear you, Fashionista's!

Monday: Accessory: Knit Bracelets!

Hello Fashionista's! This week I am going back to the basic FashionGirl topics after last weeks fun little special treat. Something I have come to love to make and wear lately are Knit Bracelets! These fun little bracelets can be made in around 30 minutes or quicker once you've made a couple. I knitted one in a multi-color pastel yarn with a crochet needle and basic stitches.
First, take a small crochet needle size G and any color yarn you want.
Next tie a knot on the end of the yarn, so your bracelt stays together.
Now wrap the yarn around the needle twice and pull the first loop over the second one and off of the needle. (Repeat this about 10 times)
After this wrap the yarn once around the needle and pull the last loop already on the needle over the one you just made and then that one comes off the needle. (Repeat until all 10 loops are off)
Repeat this process until you have 8 hanging decorations and 9 loops (an extra on the end to tie off, make sure you leave a little extra yarn to tie on your wrist)
Do NOT remove any of the loops off of the needle, it will fall apart.
Now cut about 9 2-inch pieces of yarn in the same color or a different color
Tie each piece around the loops twice to secure the bracelet.
Now remove the bracelet from the needle and its ready-to-wear!

Have fun with knit bracelets, Fashionista's! They are unique and fun.

Saturday: Style Tips: Pool/Beach!

Fashionista’s it might be the middle of January here in the Mid-West, but that doesn’t mean we can’t talk pools, swim wear and summer. Summer is my favorite season and very soon it will be the only season, when I leave all this cold weather behind. Even if there’s still snow outside I can’t help but think warm, sunny, summer-y thoughts of lying by the pool with a smoothie and good book! So today will be style tips about what’s pool or beach appropriate. One thing to remember about a warm summer day by the pool is to not worry about being self-conscience and just have fun. You can do this by wearing the right suit for your body and as a result this will bring your more confidence.

A red swim makes you the center of attention on the beach
A bandeau top is perfect for no annoying tan lines
A tie-front top creates a little “something” on top
A swim top with underwire is great for a full bust
A cutout swimsuit shows some skin without wearing a bikini
Boy shorts create curvy hips for girls with a straight figure
A simple dress is great to throw on over a swimsuit to grab lunch
Straw bags a beach-y casual and pretty
Oversized, yet chic sunglasses are perfect for people-watching
Aviator sunglasses are classic and give off a retro vibe
A Skirtini adds subtle curves to your hips and butt
A Tankini skims over a little curvy tummy and looks sleek

Spring break will be here before we know it, Fashionista’s, make sure you’re pool or beach ready with a figure-flattering swimsuit, mini-dress and sunglasses!

Friday: Style Tips: Date!

Here’s the scenario: you have a date tonight and have no idea what to wear? You are in your closet and see the same old clothes and wonder “how will I find something new and interesting?” One thing to remember to re-vamp a boring wardrobe: mix and match accessories and/or layer pieces together! When finding that perfect “date outfit” first consider where you are going and what you’ll be doing.
Satin, lace and little details add “something special” while being simple
Add a little fun jewelry for a flirty, playful touch
A fitted blazer pulls your look together and makes your waist look tiny
Cute heels make your butt look better, legs longer and bring confidence
Layers re-invent an old look and balance out a short skirt/shorts
Throw on a chic scarf, in case you get a little cold
Long dark leggings/tights make legs look longer and sleeker
Add something shimmering or sparkly to catch his eye
A sweater that ties at the waist shows off a tiny waist
Throw on that LBD with bold red and white accessories and shoes
A satin dress with skinny jeans brings in a more date-causal vibe
Bring an oversized cardigan for a warm-cozy boho feeling
Black and white always looks simple, chic and elegant
Animal prints look sexy and wild when done appropriately
A bright, sparkle or studded handbag

Be fun, flirty and confident on a date, Fashionista’s!

Wednesday: DIY Accessories!

Hey there, Fashionista's! I love DIY projects and to re-invent older items I have into fabulous new pieces. One fun item is a button bracelet. If you have some extra buttons that don't have a use and want to make a fab bracelet, just take a few minutes to make one. All you will need is about 20 buttons of various sizes, a elastic bracelet cord, fabric glue and scissors.

Do you have an old pair of jeans in your closet that you don't wear? Of course, all of us Fashionista's do. You can use the back pockets to make a cute little pocket purse or clutch. All you need is an old pair of jeans, ribbon, a seam ripper, a needle, thread and scissors. Most items you probably can find at home. You can make this little purse in 4 easy steps that take about 30 minutes. Check out further instructions for the denim pocket purse.

1. Remove back pockets from jeans with seam ripper (work with pants inside out)
2. Place pockets on top of each other with the godd side facing out and pin
3. After, cut a piece of ribbon for the handle, tuck it inside the pockets and pin
4. Sew around the outside edge of the pocket and your little purse is complete.

Tuesday: Trend: Casual-Formal!

Hey there, Fashionista’s! You might be thinking “what is casual-formal?” Isn’t that two different looks? Nope! Not anymore. With our generation (20-somethings) getting out into the workforce, dress codes are getting a little lost as individuality and expressing yourself through your wardrobe is taking over. I for one am so glad that the basic boring business suits are leaving for more individualized and creative personalities are stepping out into the office. Now I am not talking inappropriate clothing, I think there definitely should still be modesty in the office setting, but modesty with an added bonus …your unique personality!
Some trends that have been spotted are bowties with denim, 80’s-inspired menswear, candy-colored menswear, stylish semi-suits, newspaper couture, “Beetle-juice” pants and short suits for warmer climates. Check out
trend hunter for some pictures! There are so many more ideas that Fashionista’s and Fashionisto’s have been starting to come up with that the list could go on and on. What are some of your creative career wear styles?
