Tuesday: Trend: Fuzzy Socks!

Good evening, Fashionista's! Today's blog is a little late, but I was busy today. And the trend for this week is my favorite cold weather item, Fuzzy socks! Fuzzy socks go with any outfit and the crazy they are the better, since no one can see them when wearing boots when you are out. They are your little secret from the world! Nt only do they keep your feet nice and warm on those cold winter days, but they can be pulled over leggings or tights to keep them in place. Right now I have on a blue bubble dress, gray leggings and pink fuzzy socks with a black zip up. Yeah, it does lokk a little eighties, but it's warm and fabulous on me. I am probably one of a few Fashionista's that can pull this look off and I love it! Also I am one of the few that would willing wear something that is uniquely different than the mainstream. After all I am an innovator! This look will definitely be seen everywhere in a few months, and then I can't wear it anymore!
Amazing site I found for crazy fun socks! And these socks are great for those of us Fashionista's that are on are feet all day, fuzzy socks with aloe for $6.95 a pair! They would make a great gift!
Keep your feet warm and comfy, Fashionista's!

Monday: Accessory: Hieroglyphs!

Hey there, Fashionista's! It's the start of the last week of the year, and whoa did this year go by fast. It feels like I just started this blog, but I've been doing it for 4 months already. Today's accessory is something that I found over the weekend, Hieroglyphic jewelry! When I found it, I thought 'this isn't very in right now', but I looked at it again and I knew this is going to be the next big accessory for 2010. Fashionista's, you can make this fun jewelry while watching your favorite TV show one evening or before you go to bed at night. It's so simple an easy once you have a few key items. Any color string to put thread the hieroglyphics charms on in any length (necklace, bracelet, ring, key chain). Of course you need the hieroglyphic charms and a letter translation sheet so you know what word or words you want to use. Also you will need scissors, black letter spacers, maybe a key chain ring or other jewels. After you have all of your materials, which can be found at any craft store or craft section of a store, and a few minutes you can create a unique little accessory that only you know what it says! Others will notice it and wonder what your necklace or bracelet says and it can be a great conversation starter.
Fashionista's, go out there and make a statement with hieroglyphics!

Thursday: Celebrity Highlights: Death!

Hello Fashonista's!! Today's celebrity highlight is for all of the celebrities or "known" people in them media that died this year. There have been a lot of celebrity deaths this year and 99% I didn't know until they died, but I guess they were known. Fashionista's, you might wonder why I am talking about death on Christmas, but it seemed like a great celebrity topic for the end of the year. The most recent death was on December 20 at 11am in Las Angles, which is when Brittany Murphy died. Also this year we lost Billy Mays, one of the best at infomercial-selling products. There was also Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, Jett Travolta, Michael Jackson, Patrick Swayze, Roy Disney, Ted Kennedy, Umaga and many others. Hopefully in 2010 we won't lose many young celebrities with big careers and futures ahead of them!
Merry Christmas, Fashionista's!

Saturday: Budget-Chic: Thrifty or DIY

Hello Fashionista's! It's the last weekend before Christmas and that means there will be a lot of last minute shopping for the holiday's! I will not be one of "those" people that fight the crowds at the stores this weekend. I like to make gifts for people that are unique, special and one-of-a-kind. For those of you that want to knit a glamourous long scarf for your grandma or a sweater, it could be possibly too late, but a cute little knit hat, socks or mittens could be a possiblity; if you have a couple free hours this weekend. I knitted myself a hat in about a week working a couple hours a day and it's totally fabulous. Or maybe you know someone who likes to write or make lists; you can make them a cute little notebook.Or even make a calendar on the computer with old and new pictures for your grandparents.
There are countless things you can make that are classy and look expensive, be creative!
If you think you don't have time for a DIY project, try to hit your local thrift store or Salvation Army. You never know what unique items you might find, maybe even something from a designer!
So Fashionista's if you are a little low on cash or still need to find a gift for someone special, try a DIY project or hit your local thrift store for a unique find!
Check out DIY gifts or last minute gifts or the salvation army website to locate your local thrift store or even drop off some used 'good quality' items to make someone else's Christmas a little better!
Happy Shopping, Fashionistas and stay warm!

Tuesday: Trend of the Week: Advice

Hello Fashionista's! Today's trend is advice and tips to spice up your boring outfits. We all have those pieces in our closets that get boring and routine after a while. Today I am going to tell you how to add a little life to those life-less looks. Check out these tips from Seventeen magazine:
  • When in doubt, work with black -it's a color that perfectly unifies two prints and with a solid cardigan ties the whole look together
  • Two floral prints balance each other best when one pattern is big and the other in softer and tiny
  • Clash-y designs, like florals and plaids, can look great together when they share common colors
  • Nevervous about mixing too much; you can always add a little print with a clutch
  • Two pieces in different colors and fabrics can work together if they have a similar pattern like a tiny paisley floral
  • Neutral prints look even better with an unexpected pop of color, like a bold polka-dot scarf

Stay classy and liven up your looks with a pop of color, Fashionista's!

Monday: Accessory: Smile!

Hey there, Fashionista's! It's another Monday and for me it's also the last day of the fall semester and the start of finals week. Today's accessory is something I want to see everyone do more of, and that's SMILE! When I walk around campus, go to class, go shopping or anywhere I am, barely anyone smiles. And why not? Smiling is a nice, friendly way to approch people and a smile can brighten anyone's day, even your own. I always smile when I see people, maybe I smile too much, but I don't care, I have to smile for all of those people that don't! So starting today, Fashionista's I want all of you to smile at people you pass on your walk to class or work, when you're out grocery or Christmas shopping or even just for no reason other than making someone's day. Smiling will also make your feel better by relieving stress, feeling happier, and making the world a better place one smile at a time!
Have a fabulous day and SMILE, Fashionista's!

Thursday: Celebrity Highlights: Hilary Duff

Hey there, Fashionista's! In today's celebrity highlight, it's all about my favorite actress Hilary Duff. Hilary Duff is starring in a new independent drama, "According to Greta" coming to select theaters tomorrow December 11. According to Greta was filmed back in September-November in 2007 for between $1-$2 million. Originally titled "Greta"at the LA screening, had it's name changed for the US release tomorrow. Releasing to DVD on January 19.
Hilary Duff has had a major change from the characters she usually plays. She is usually the sweet, girlie lead of the movie, but in Greta she plays a more edgier, sarcastic, serious 18-year old her is hurting inside. She has had criticisms from both sides of the line saying this a reviving film while others say its too serious and edgy. Greta deals with some tough issues that teenagers face like her mother in the movie is on her third marriage, Greta (Hilary' character) is shipped off to her grandparents house, and she keeps a notebook of how she is going to kill herself by her 18th birthday. "According to Greta" is a very serious independent film with some very real and tough issues.
If you need something to do this weekend, look up "According to Greta" and see if it' showing in a theatre near you. If it's not, go out and get the DVD on January 19. I know I will!
Stay classy and real, Fashionista's!

Friday: Health and Body: Cold Weather

Hello Fashionista's! Ok, I'm going to say it, I hate cold weather and for me anything below 55 is cold and I live in Illinois! I swear I was not meant to live here and I really belong in Southern California, Arizona, Hawaii, or living in the middle of a desert somewhere. Today this blog is about how to avoid the cold winter weather. Some are true others are just fun.
  • Move south or to the southern hemisphere! :)
  • Wear many layers -cami, tee, sweater, winter coat, maybe a hoodie also
  • Wear a really warm wool coat, mitten-gloves, insulated boots and something to cover ears
  • Wrap up in a blanket, or 2!
  • Drink hot chocolate, tea, or apple cider. Hot chocolate is my favorite! :)
  • Stay in by the fire and watch TV of movies.
  • Hybernate! Don't go outside if it's below 50! Had to add it :)
  • Find a portable heater you can carry around
  • Take online classes or get an online job! Don't have to leave the house :)
  • Order food to be delivered, instead of going out to eat

I think all of you get the idea. I don't like going outside in the cold and I have to be warm. Maybe we'll get lucky and have a short winter or an unseasonably warm winter. Wait it's not even officially winter yet and I want summer to happen tomorrow. Plus it's snowing already.

Stay classy and warm, Fashionista's!

They are great for Fashionista's, Fashionisto's and kids! Here are some ideas:

Thursday: Celebrity Highlights: Kelly Ripa

Hello Fashionista's!! Thursday has come around again and today it's all about Kelly Ripa. Kelly is so fashion forward and when I watch Regis&Kelly weekday mornings (when I have time) I always love what's she's wearing. Whatever she wears always looks so effortless and chic. Kelly Ripa was born in New Jersey and was considered awkward when she was in school, but that didn't stop her from having a very successful career. She got her first big break playing Hayley Santos on All My Children. While working on AMC, she met her husband Mark Consuelos. After Kelly left AMC, she got her next big role on Live with Regis & Kelly. On R&K she gets to show off her fashionista side everyday, with a fabulous new outfit. Besides these 2 big roles, she has also been on numerous other talks shows as a guest and has had numerous cameo appearances in movies and TV shows. For a couple seasons she co-stared in Hope and Faith, with Faith Fairfield. Besides a successful career, Kelly also has great family. She has 3 kids: Michael who is 12, Lola who is 8 and Juaquin who is 6. Kelly, Mark and the kids live in New York and love traveling across country every summer to Arizona. I love Kelly's effortless chic style, she can go from red carpet to the park with her kids and still look young and fabulous, even at 39!

Hello Fashionista's!!! It's been raining here since Sunday and I think I might be needing a boat soon. Umbrellas and rainboots have been seen all over campus and I am not liking it. With the boots and umbrellas, comes lazyness, wanting to sleep, depressing people and gross-ness. This weeks trend will be rainboots, since it's suppose to rain all week. Rainboots can be found in any price point and Target has some fab ones. Check out these: Like these tall black rainboots that are $24.99 or these black/white houndstooth rainboots also for $24.99 or even these pretty blue with white hibiscus flowers rainboots.

Monday: Accessories: Watch

Hello there, Fasahionista's!! It's the start of another week and after a fabulous weekend I am so excited to get this week started. Because later this week on Thursday and Friday I am going on a class trip to Fashion Group International's Career Day in Chicago!! I am so excited! :)

Today's accessory that I think all Fashionista's need is a watch. I am so tired, as well as most of you probably, of seeing people that always check the time on their phones. Or the people that have their phone constently in their hand. I mean put the phone away, it is not part of you. That is one of my pet peeves I guess, but I just can't stand when people let their life revolve around a little phone. By investing in a good quality watch for your career life or even even a fun fashion watch, you can put the phone away and look up at the world! Also when you are in the business world all day for your career, you can't have your phone connected to your hand. So start wearing a watch now to get to places on time (like class), as a fabulous accessory or even just to complete your sophisticated-chic look.

Here's a fabulous charm watch from Guess at Macy's for $95.
Or this oversize gold banded watch from Armani also at Macy's for &160.
Here's a heart charm watch from Xhilaration at Target for $12.99.
Or this gold cuff watch from GenevaPlatinum also at Target for $19.99.
Stay classy, Fashionista's and wear get a watch in complete your look!

Friday: Health and Body: Scheduling

Hello Fashionista's!!! It's Friday again and that means its the start of the weekend. For most of you the weekend is spent hanging out with friensds, going out at night, relaxing, getting work done and so much more. But how does a busy Fashionista fit everything in to just 2 days? 48 hours isn't enough time to get everything done, see everyone you need to see and get 8 hours of sleep a night. So today's health and body blog is about sceduling your time! Once you reach your 20's, you might think you know how to manage your time, but you'd be surprised at how many of us don't use our time productively. Here are some tips to make the most out of your time.
1. On Sunday's make a list of everything you have to accomplish in the next week, include everything from grocery shopping to laundry to time with friends, studying, work, TV shows and everything else you have to do.
2. On your list make sure you include when each thing needs to be completed by.
3. Check off each item as you do it, so you will feel a sense of accomplishment.
4. Make sure you schedule time for yourself on your list. Even if its just an hour to watch your favorite show on Monday nights, Gossip Girl! :)
5. Log off of the computer and stop procrastinating, so you can get everything done and have time to get your 8 hours of required sleep a night.
6. Another thing is that most of us Fashionista's try to be perfectionists and spend so much time looking and trying to make everything perfect. Just because something is not or didn't go perfectly how you wanted it to, it doesn't mean it's necessarily bad.
7. Finally award yourself on Friday or Saturday, when you get everything accomplished. By awarding yourself, you are congradulating yourself for comleting everything you had to this week and make you feel more satisfied to accomplish everything next week.
Check out how to get organized and how to avoid procrastinating!
Stay classy and organize your time, Fashionista's!

Wednesday: Fashion News: TV and Fashion

Hello Fashionista's!! This week in fashion news is all about how TV characters and how they have an impact on fashion and accessories. TV and the chararacters on the shows are having a greater influence on fashion today because the TV shows themselves are more fashion conscious. Last Cosabella, a lingerie brand, modeled some of their products around Carrie, Samantha, Charolette and Miranda on HBO's Sex and the City. This year designer Anna Sui designed a line for Target inspired by the CW's Gossip Girl. Which is my favorite show and current obsession, shhh! All shows on TV have an important impact on the fashion industry, how people dress and the inspiration that Fashionista's everywhere get to incorporate into their own styles. So Fashionista's the next time you sit down and watch your favorite show, you can now realize that it has an imporant impact on what you wear and how you shop. Are you fabulous and chic like the characters on Gossip Girl or sexy, confident and smart like the Sex and the City charaters?
Stay classy, Fashionista's and remember to watch your favorite TV shows!

Tuesday: Trend: Tights

Hello Fashionista's!!! Today is trend of the week and for today's trend I have really gotten into tights lately. Which I'm sure many of you have too. Tights in all colors are fabulous. From the more basic colors like black, gray, navy, brown and cream to bright popping colors like blue, green, red, purple and pink. Pairing tights with long tunics, long sweaters, skirts, dresses or even shorts is a great way to transitions into fall and still keep a little summer flare to your look. I personally love tights with dresses, shorts and long sweaters/tunics. For a more professional look try black tights with a dress, belted waist and heels. For a fun party look try black tights with a fun satin red dress, black belt and sparkley heels or flats. For a more casual class or hanging out look try brown tights with an oversized cream or purple sweater with brown boots. Tights can make any outfit know matter where you are headed, just change the color, shoes, accessories or what you wear with your tights. Also you can find inexpensive tights for the Fashionista's out their on a budget! Check out these at Target: berrytights. Or these fun tights from JCPenney: argyletights. Or even these funky tights from DKNY at Nordstrom: colorblocktights.

Stay classy and sophisticated in your tights this fall and winter, Fashionista's!

Monday: Accessory: Hair Bows

Hello Fashionista's!!! Welcome to the start of another week and a new month! For today's accessory I 've found that hair bows have been taking the runway in the Spring 2010 designer shows! This hot accessory has not been seen on the runways since the 80's; and since I was born in the middle 1988, it's really never been seen in top fashion in my lifetime!! But growing up I always remember wearing bows in my hair because I loved them.
Designers such as Diane Von Furstenberg, Jason Wu and Milly all have put a unique spin on the bows they used. Furstenberg used bows to pin hair back along the side. Wu used big bows that wrapped around the head like a present. Milly used the bows to tie around side ponytails.
There is also a wide variety of fabric choices that the bows were seen in : taffeta, chiffon, patent leather, and soon on. Also bows have been spotted in many colors, so pick some up in your favorite color!
The bows on the runways were big and bold, but if us Fashionista's want to bring this trend to our schools and towns, we should tone done the size. The runway is meant for the big boldness, but when you go to class, out with friends or even to work, you're not going to want a gigantic bow on your head! Instead opt for smaller styles and use 2 or 3. Maybe pin 1 on each side to hold back your hair. or pull your hair back a secure a bow around your hair tie.
Michael Boychuck, a celebrity stylist said, "The bows on the runway were mosylt oversized and eccentric, but for the every day [Fashionista], bows that are smaller and understated are more realistic".
Check out the looks on the runway: bows in Spring 2010 runway shows!

Stay classy, Fashionista's and try out those bows now to get ahead of the Spring trend!!

Friday: Healthy and Body: Halloween

Hello Fashionista's!! Tomorrow is Halloween and that means candy, if you like candy that is. Or dressing up and pretending to be someone else, which a lot of people enjoy doing. But that is one thing that I don't understand; why do people like pretending to be someone else only one day of the year. I prefer pretending to be different people everyday through fashion and style choices. For example, why be a princess one day a year when I can be one everyday? So I have never really gotten into Halloween very much in the dressing up or the candy, since I'm not a big fan of candy.
So this Friday's blog I will cover some easy last-minute costume ideas, because I bet some of you haven't found or made a costume yet!

1. Wear black long sleeve shirt, black skirt with black tights, and black converse shoes. Then add black nails, white makeup and blood red lips. Perfect goth look and I bet you have everything for this look (or borrow from a friend).

2. Here's a costume idea for a group of 3 or 4 Smore's:
Person 1: Marshmallows =Wear a puffy white dress with white tights and white shoes
Person 2: Chocolate =Wear dark brown shirt and pants (or skirt with tights) and brown shoes and make a sigh that says "Hershey" for the front of your shirt
Person 3 and 4: Graham Crackers =Wear light brown or tan

3. Here's my favorite idea to be a Princess: There are many looks for this but I'll give you 2 ideas. One is to put on your prettiest pink dress with skin tone tights and silver (or gold) heels. Make sure you do your makeup and hair all glam too. And don't forget the tiara!! The second idea is you can just put one your favorite outfit, heels and tiara and you are princess!!

Remember Fashionista's, stay classy on Halloween!!

Thursday: Celebrity Highlights: Mary-Kate and Ashley

Hello Fashionista's! Today is all about celebrities and the spotlight is on Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. I grew up with MK&A watched all their movies and TV shows, read their books, everything. They were my idols and icons growing up and I still think they are fashion icons today and will go down in fashion history. They got their start in the TV industry practically from birth with the role of Michelle Tanner on Full House (a show I have seen way too many times). All the way up to today being the co-founders of the billion dollar Duelstar Entertainment.
In this blog is about their new fashion line called Olsenboye, that will be coming out in February 2010 to JCPenney locations throughout the country. Their line is aimed at Juniors and will feature jeans, bottoms, tops, dresses, skirts, shorts, jackets, shoes and handbags. All of these pieces can be mixed to create fabulous looks and everything in the line is going to be prices between $20 to $50. So these pieces can be bought by a Fashionista on any budget! Which is fabulous. I will definitely have to check Olsenboye out in February and so do all of you. All of these pieces will be available in sizes 0-15, so every size and shape girl can find something that fits them. Olsenboye's theme is inspired by a travel destinations and looks are modeled after different cities around the world. So this look is prefect for any Fashionista what sees herself as traveling the world!
For more information check out the MK&A article or WWD.com! And look for Olsenboye in a JCPenney's near you in February!!
Stay classy Fashionista's and check out MK&A!!

Tuesday: Trend: Bold Red Lips

Hello Fashionista's! One thing that I think all Fashionista's must master is the bold red lips! This look can be brought from day time to night time with just a few changes. However many Fashionista's think they can't pull off the bold red lips and that is just because they don't know how to. I am going to give you 5 tips when rocking the red lips.
Tip 1: Don't over do the rest of your makeup. When wearing red lipstick, go for a more nuetral palette for the rest of your face and nails. Brush a light powder on and go for light eyes, add mascara and skip the eye liner. Also choose clear, light or black nail polish when wearing red lipstick.
Tip 2: Use lip liner when wearing red lipstick so the lipstick doesn't bleed (feather) around your mouth. This needs to happen with red lipstick, so by adding the liner you can prevent the bleeding.
Tip 3: Choose the right shade of red. Red comes in many shades and have undertones in them. Plum and brown are some common undertones. Red with plum unertones looks better on pink skin tones and red with warm brown undertones is better for more yellow skin by warming up the face.
Tip 4: Blending lipsticks is being seen more and more by makeup artists. Say you bought a shade of red that doesn't work with your skin tone, by blending it with another one of your lipsticks (brown or plum) can change the intensity and provide you with a whole new look without spending extra cash.
Tip 5: I have also heard, "What do I wear with bold red lips?" This is easy anything that makes your lips pop! That means a more nuetral, simple outfit to show off your face. A all black outfit with white accessories and red lips looks elegant and chic. However, black and white also looks classy. Just don't wear too much color (or too much pink/red ) when rocking the bold red lips.

Stay classy, Fashionista's and rock those bold red lips!

Monday: Accessories: Umbrellas

Hello Fashionista's!!
It seems like all it does any more is rain, rain, rain. I am so tired of rain, cold, wind, wetness, clouds, etc. My umbrella has been my best friend lately and it still doesn't keep me dry. The wind blows that rain sideways. I need an umbrella bubble to stay dry. Has this happened to all of you too, Fashionista's? You just finished getting dressed in the perfect outfit, your hairs all pretty and your makeup looks hot; you step outside and all of that changes in one minute. It's awful! So all of this means that every Fashionista needs a good umbrella, cute rainboots, and a waterproof jacket. And maybe a boat if it keeps raining!
Check out this clear bubble umbrella at Target: $16.99 (bubble)
Check out these fabulous plain rain boots at Target: $24.99 (rain)
Check out this fashion polka dot umbrella at Kohl's: $15.40 (polkadot)
Check out these fabulous rain boots found on Zappos.com: $45.95 (zappos)
