Tuesday: Trend: Smart Water!

Hey there, today’s trend is Smart Water! Glaceau's Smart Water is a new and improved take on water. Made with the hydrologic cycle, meaning hydro (water) and logic (smart) is how smart water got it's name. With rain water beginning the process, then its distilled into vapor and precipitates, finally electrolytes are added and your Smart Water is bottled and purchased. So does this mean that Smart Water will actually make you smarter? Probably not, but at least you can look stylish and feel smarter drinking a bottle of Smart Water. Glaceau's Smart Water also makes Vitamin Water and Vitamin Water Zero. Try all three today! I tried it and I didn't notice anything different than regular bottle water, except a crisper taste. But try it for yourself!

Check out Glaceau's website for more details on the unique packaging!

Thursday: Highlights: Miley!

hey Fashionista's! Check out Miley's new movie "The Last Song" when it comes out on March 31st! I really want to see it. Why? Because I love Miley! I know she's like four years younger than me, but she is a very talented actor, singer, designer and writer. I loved the Hannah Montanna movie and I know I will love "The Last Song" when it comes out. Even though I might have to wait a little longer for it to come out where I am currently. Liam Hemsworth, Miley's boyfriend, is also in the movie playing her boyfriend. Well they actually met during the filming of the movie.
Check out this website for more of the cast, the story, and locations:

Wednesday: Fashion News: Street Style!

Hello, Fashionista's! This week's fashion news comes to you from the April issue of Seventeen magazine. This month Seventeen took styles off the street that everyday girls are wearing and showed how they can be turned into something trend-inspired from spring.

1) Brights!!! Everyone loves to wear bright colors and stand out, when it's apporpriate of course. On the streets this is done all out with multiple colors and patterns to add glam to any outfit. You can turn this into a spring trend by mixing neon colors for a bold style, but by adding a short-sleeve sweatshirt and cute sneakers to tone done the crazy a little bit.

2) Ruffles!!! I kow I love ruffles, but I don't like to go over-the-top crazy with them. This look on the streets can be girly, glam, boho or preppy. Just what you pair with it takes on the look. You can turn this girly trend into a spring look by having ruffles with flouncy tiers on denim to look edgier. Also if you add differnt layer washes of denim like a dark denim ruffle-y dress with light-wash crop jacket with some tribal jewelry and texture for a funky edgy look.

3) Lace!!! lace can complete any look with a sophisicated or romantic vibe, but just how can you turn it into a spring trend. One the streets lace has a vintage-inspired feel of a light, airy and romantic twist. For spring you can try a chic black lace shirt with edgy white skinny jeans for a tough, yet sweet look. Don't forget the edgy accessories!

4) Stripes!!! On the streets stripes can be classy and comfy all in one. Plus eye-catching! To turn this classy-comfy look into a spring must-have try to make this trend sexy and earthy with colored stripes, classy cutouts and a belt to cinch your waist. Add boho, vintage-y accessories to complete this rocker-inspried look.

Bring everyday looks to high fashion, fashionista's!

Tuesday: Trend: Plaid!

Hey there, want to look smart, sexy, cute, colorful, girly glam and beach-y-laidback this season? Try the latest trend of plaid! Wear it alone or mix and match it with different color plaids, patterns, designs or textures.

Like this plaid shirt dress from Macy's. It can be dressed up with tights, heals and classy accessories or dressed down with boots and a cute jacket for weekend.
http://www.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=442751&BannerID=PD446&PartnerID=LINKSHARE&LinkshareID=P2kJ999Um6Y-0hF9fV8FxBUnFW11qN4DZQ

Mixing plaids can be fun and creative, if you know how to pull it off. This runway look can be a little over-the-top for everyday, but by mixing a cute plaid button-up with a solid or other print can be much more wearable.

Monday: Accessory: What's Your Style?

Hey Fashionista’s! It’s the start of another week, but at least it’s getting closer to spring here in the Midwest. Accessories are an important part of our everyday dress and personal style; that this week I am going to look at four different styles and some chic accessories for each. Our course each of us has each of these styles in us, but how about mixing them up and creating a whole new look. Check out the March issue of Seventeen on where to find some of these pieces.

1)Girly Glam –when going for a girly look try mixing lacy, bright colors and prints for a fun vibe. You can try a cute gold and pink heart shaped ring from Betsey Johnson, sold at select Dillard’s. Of killer red heels from Fergie sold at shoes.com. Lace and bows are also fun to add to your look.

2)Flirty Florals –still want to be girly, but a little toned down for day. Try layered florals and ruffles for a candy sweet vibe. A chic floral print bag from O’Neil is fun and spring-y. Or a fabulous gold with flower-y necklace from Lulu’s is exactly what you need and its only $29! By wearing pale colors it will give off a sweet, yet sophisticated look.

3)City Sleek –ready to hit the city streets in style. Try basic shapes and bold intense colors and pieces for a casual, yet “wow” factor vibe. A bold colored tunic with a basic black pencil skirt or pants with statement heels will definitely get you noticed while walking down 5th Avenue. Add big bold face-framing sunglasses and a bold KR3W watch from zumiez.com for $50 for a hint of polished sophistication.

4)Downtown Edgy –so you want to add a tough vibe to your look. Try mixing leather and denim for a “tough” feel. For a weekend downtown pair gray skinny jeans with a vintage tee and chic faux-leather jacket. Add a studded belt and hold converse sneakers to complete the look.

Embrace your unique style, Fashionista’s, and mix it up a little!

Friday: Health: Beautiful Foods!

Hey there, it’s Friday and for healthy-living this week I found in Seventeen foods that make you pretty and foods that can sabotage beauty.

Three foods to improve your beauty and body:
1) To get clearer skin try a salmon sushi roll and edamame. Salmon and edamame (soy beans) have omega-3 fatty acids, which are healthy fats to help soften your skin, protect against acne and clogged pores, and keep your eyes sparkly and bright.
2) To get a brighter smile try a strawberry-raspberry yogurt parfait. Yogurt and low-fat dairy are high in calcium and phosphorus, which help teeth stay shiny and strong and vitamin C, which will keep your gums healthy.
3) To get shiny hair try beef or tofu stir fry. Lean beef and tofu have iron, which makes hair shiny and soft and vitamin C from veggies like red pepper, which help your body absorb the iron.

Three foods to sabotage your beauty:
1) Too much sugar can make your skin oily and clog pores, which cause zits.
2) Too much sodium (French fries/Chinese food/soup) can cause puffy eyes and bloating.
3) Too much caffeine (energy drinks/coffee) can drain your body of moisture and make skin dry.

Tuesday: Trend: Spring!

Hey there, today’s trend is spring. With the start of March and Spring Break coming up, I think spring should be on every Fashionista’s mind. This week’s top trends for spring come from the March issue of Seventeen magazine.

Destroyed pieces are being seen on the runway. From ripped denim or leggings to frayed and slashed pieces, the “destroyed look” is one spring trend embraced by designers Just Cavalli, Balmain, and Herve Leger.

Mixed prints were seen on Versace and Proenza Schouler runways. Get this look by pairing a large bold print with smaller patterns for a “thrown together” casual weekend or class look.

Tribal earthy tones and geometric prints are another colorful trend for spring. With interesting patterns and colors, there’s definitely something for everyone. Gucci and Dries Van Noten are two designers who are embracing the tribal trend.

Prairie trends like tiny florals, faded leather and beat-up denim look pretty and laid-back. The “Prairie look” is being embraced this spring by Chanel, D&G, and Ralph Lauren.

Rosettes can be big flowers and bright hues that make a sweet print vibrant and fun. Moschino and Dolce & Gabbana are bringing girly color to spring with flowers and bold colors. Betsey Johnson has a fabulous red rosette and skull bag that’s available at www.betseyjohnson.com.

Military looks that are army-inspired, yet still girly with details, ruffles and bows is another spring trend. Alexander Wang, Chloe, and Rag & Bone are three designers embracing this trend with forest green, khaki, brown and black. From a chic sweater vest to cargo-like Capri’s and shorts to belts over dresses and shirts military looks are a trend being seen this spring.

Monday: Accessory: Chic Laptop Bags!

Hey Fashionista’s! Today’s accessory is a laptop bag because over the weekend I was out looking for one and found a totally classy-chic black laptop bag that can double as a purse. It actually looks like a big purse that can hide a laptop in it! I found it at Target of all places, after looking around awhile at other places. It was affordable as well, not like the other $100 or $200 bags I saw elsewhere. Finding a chic laptop bag is more popular than ever with students and business-people traveling and working away from home. Also with laptops getting smaller (minis and netbooks) allows people to take their laptop on-the-go. Even fashion designers, like Vivienne Tam whom I talked about last week, have collaborated with HP to design a chic mini laptop (that’s the size of a clutch). Other designers have added a laptop compartment to their line of purses and/or totes.
